Neil Fisher met Richard Girvan in the final of The Trusts Men`s Singles at Henderson as the showcase event of The Trusts New Zealand Open.While Girvan won the first end, Fisher playing some superb draw bowls was very quickly to a 9-2 advantage.On the 10th end Fisher was holding two shot when Girvan drove the jack into the ditch to claim the end.Girvan settled by the 13th end and picked up a three after Fisher had tried to drive Girvan`s shot bowls off the rink.The 13th end saw Girvan pick up another three to draw closer at 12-7.Girvan appeared to find his straps at this stage and within five ends, all of which he won, had the lead over Fisher at 15-13.On the 21st end, Girvan drew a shot at jack high. Fishers reply was a couple of feet through the head, and the score with the final bowl of the end showed Girvan still picking up one show.Fisher did not give up however and drew a toucher with his first bowl of the next and another close bowl with his second. Girvan tries to wrest the shots but undercut the head and was heavy with his last bowl. Fisher gaind one shot on the end to bring the score back to 16-15.Fisher drew two shots on the next end to once again hold the lead 17-16.In the next end Fisher held the shot until Girvan`s last bowl when he rolled Fisher`s bowl out to gain three shots.Again Fisher bouncd back to draw the game on the game at 20-20.The first bowl from Girvan in the next end was a front toucher which Fisher was unable to dislodge and Richard Girvan became the winner of The Trusts Men`s Singles for 2009. |  |
