The men's 2nd division 7's side have won the title. The team, opposite, consisted of (from left): George Alley, Roger Brunton, Wayne Ford, Bryan Chapman, Tere Brunton, Mike Hadrup, Joseph Ouyang and David Houston (Manager). The team will play in the Northern Regional Playoffs in Whangarei on the 6th and 7th of March. The women's 1st division side were narrowly beaten by Carlton-Cornwall in their final. Both the pairs and the fours played extra ends. The pairs won their end, however the fours dropped theirs to give the opposition a 2-1 win. The women's 2nd division won their section in qualifying. They lost their post-section match to end third equal. Neither the men's 1st division nor the 1-5 year sides qualified. |

on Sunday 29 November 2009 - 08:21:36 | by AdminNeil Fisher met Richard Girvan in the final of The Trusts Men`s Singles at Henderson as the showcase event of The Trusts New Zealand Open.While Girvan won the first end, Fisher playing some superb draw bowls was very quickly to a 9-2 advantage.On the 10th end Fisher was holding two shot when Girvan drove the jack into the ditch to claim the end.Girvan settled by the 13th end and picked up a three after Fisher had tried to drive Girvan`s shot bowls off the rink.The 13th end saw Girvan pick up another three to draw closer at 12-7.Girvan appeared to find his straps at this stage and within five ends, all of which he won, had the lead over Fisher at 15-13.On the 21st end, Girvan drew a shot at jack high. Fishers reply was a couple of feet through the head, and the score with the final bowl of the end showed Girvan still picking up one show.Fisher did not give up however and drew a toucher with his first bowl of the next and another close bowl with his second. Girvan tries to wrest the shots but undercut the head and was heavy with his last bowl. Fisher gaind one shot on the end to bring the score back to 16-15.Fisher drew two shots on the next end to once again hold the lead 17-16.In the next end Fisher held the shot until Girvan`s last bowl when he rolled Fisher`s bowl out to gain three shots.Again Fisher bouncd back to draw the game on the game at 20-20.The first bowl from Girvan in the next end was a front toucher which Fisher was unable to dislodge and Richard Girvan became the winner of The Trusts Men`s Singles for 2009. |
Auckland Women's Open Singles Champ

Harris seemed battle hardened and played herself into some good form following a string of good wins throughout the event. After topping her section, she went on the eliminate Karen de Jongh 21-12, Barbara Lyon 21-13 and Clara Bowman 21-17 in the last 16, quarter final and semi final respectively. Harris and Broadbent fought a see-sawing battle with the lead changing four times. But Harris reigned supreme, finishing stronger and earning herself a place in the Trusts New Zealand Open. |

Peters and Anderson win Champ Pairs

Peters and Anderson drew superbly over the early stages of the game and obtained a reasonable lead. Fraser and Melrose chipped away at their lead over the latter stages of the game. With two ends to go, Peters and Anderson were two down on the board and three down on the head. Peters drove the white into the ditch with her last bowl to pick up a three and go into the last end one up. The champs secured the title winning the last end.

The final appeared to have slipped away from Cotton when the score was 16-9 with three ends to play. The fourteenth end was a turning point in the game when Fisher found himself with only one bowl on the head. Cotton drove off Fisher's bowl to pick up a five. Now trailing by only two, the door was slightly ajar. Cotton's team responded to the pressure and out-drew Fisher's team on the next head to pick up a six. Cotton had waltzed through the door and virtually slammed it shut behind him. Leading by four shots, they picked up the last end to win the game.

Karen Hema Third Equal in Marac Premier Singles
on Monday 14 September 2009 - 21:04:51 | by AdminThe quarterfinal between Karen Hema and Leanne Chinery saw Hema take an early lead 8-3, only to drop two fours in quick succession and letting Chinery back into a close fought game. Hema had her vengeance on the 11th end when she picked up a four. Despite Chinery picking up six of the last nine ends, the game finished with Hema the victor 21-18. The semi-final saw Karen Hema play Kensington’s Anne Bateman. Hema dropped a four early in the game but clawed her way back to 9-11 by the 15th end. However, Hema dropped two fours in quick succession from which she could not recover and Bateman took the win 21-12. The final saw Elaine McClintock facing Anne Bateman. McClintock, who was in the winning women’s triples team at the Trusts NZ Open last year, showed superb drawing skills and didn’t allow Bateman into the game. By the 12th end McClintock was 12-3 up and even when Bateman had bowls six inches behind the jack McClintock outdrew them. The final score was 21 -9 to McClintock. |
Norton's First Grandaughter

Her mother, Jane Norton (daughter of Grant) and father, Michael Poynter, are both lawyers and living in Oxford, England. Jane is attending Oxford University and is completing a Doctorate in Law with the help of a Commonwealth Scholarship. Well done Grandpa and Grandma. |
