Winter Interclub

The quarterfinals and semi finals of the Winter Interclub were completed at Bridge Park on Sunday before the weather dictated that the final would be postponed. In the quarterfinals, Pakuranga was pitted against Apex Advice Onehunga. The Pakuranga team of Karen Hema, Colin Byers and Jill Fraser got out to a good lead but then allowed the Onehunga team to catch up. At 9-8 on the 10th end the game was anyone’s, but the Pakuranga trio then stepped on the gas and took the game 17-10.Onehunga was far too strong for the triples team consisting of Roger Brunton, Wayne Ford and Sue Peters and ran away with the game 20-8. The third of the three teams consisting of Mark Brown, Gaylene Harvey and Grant Hema let Onehunga take the lead out to 9-5 after nine of the scheduled 15 ends had been played. However the Pakuranga team pegged back the lead and then went on to score five of the last six ends to clinch the game and the round for Pakuranga 18-10.Hillsboro met Pakuranga in the semi finals and all three games produced one sided results. Pakuranga won the requisite two games to remain live winning 19-6 (Brown) and 16-8 (Hema) but the third team was outclassed at 23-10 on the 14th end before picking up a five on the final end to make their score a little more respectable. The final games will be played next Sunday 8th August at Bridge Park Bowling Club commencing at 10.00am. Good luck to the Pakuranga side in their quest to become the 2010-2011 Winter Interclub champions.

NZ Sevens Finals

The sevens side travelled to Palmerston North to compete in the National final. Unfortunately the team did not perform to the level achieved in the tournaments leading to this event. Loss of YY and subsequent changes to the line-up may have played a role in this. One player, however, was overheard to say that the greatest influence on the underperforming was the choice of late night entertainment and the early morning exits from some establishments. Apart from this, the team represented the northern region with pride and were fine ambassadors of the club.Well done and congratulations for your successess.
